Are there trees in the desert?
This question came up when Trevor brought in a collection of toy animals that live in the African desert. All of the children said the giraffe, elephant, lion, and zebras lived in the desert, but one child said, "there are no trees in the desert!"
So, we looked in one of our books on the African desert, and we did see a couple of trees! "The giraffes eat trees!" said, Blake. So we all worked together on making a big art piece showing the desert.
The children made sure that it didn't look like a "forest", so they only put 4 trees in their desert!

Tree Update
We are working so well on our tree project! We would love to learn as much as we can about them!
Since Natalie LOVES making trees for everyone, :0), she made a "mini forest" on a long piece of paper. The rest of the class is working on making the different animals, insects, and anything else that lives on a tree. We will place all of them in the forest where they belong. We are also spelling all the words we can think of for our tree project. We will put it up soon, so we can show off how well we are writing now!

Tree Project

We have been working on our "tree project"! We all drew trees and we noticed that some were taller than others......................so we started using our rulers to MEASURE! The tree Natalie made was 3 feet tall.

And once the tree was up, we all stood next to it to compare our height. We put another piece of paper to show how much WE measure!

compost -aka- stinky time
Compost (also known as stinky time)is a type of fertilizer that is made from rotting plants. It is easy and cheap to make, as all it really requires is vegetable waste. The vegetable waste is broken down by bacteria (germs), and made into compost. can you believe we know what that is...
now that we know how cool composting is we DO NOT throw anything away, we used to just keep one or two orange peels now we keep all of them. by composting we're reducing the amout of garbage we produce and keeping the yard waste out of landfills. don't you wish you were cool like us...well you can be, we just told you how. bonus is it's great for the soil, conserves water, stops fertilizer run off & it isn't hard to do...whoo hoo. if we can do it, so can you.

we did it!!!
guess what...we did it, we raised enough money to adopt a polar bear family! whoo hoo! we decided to make yesterday "happy polar bear day", we even had a celebration in its honor. we made a HUGE sign that said "happy polar bear day" & we colored polar bears to put all over it. since polar bears are from the arctic we decided to make our lunch be foods from the arctic. we made a tortiere which is a "meat pie", it was so nummy & we thought polar bears only ate seals, who knew they liked potatoes also. we also made an earth bar which had oats, brown sugar, chocolate chips & raisins. we did save the best for last,
