Little Wonders is a wonderful learning center located right here in Missouri City. This is where talent, imagination and professional skills are being dedicated to the teaching of our young children. We understand that children learn differently. Through observation and listening, we encourage each individual's unique learning styles; while focusing on their physical, educational and emotional needs. All of our teachers are professionally qualified with combined expertise in education, speech & hearing therapy, bilingual education and English as a Second Language. With a low student-teacher ratio, we provide your child with the attention they need. Little Wonders Learning Center is located at the corner of Lexington Blvd. and Dulles Ave. In this center, you will find a number of warm, loving teachers committed to putting children first. This isn't your ordinary day care facility.

Blast Off

The students have began a project on rocket ships! This big project all started from a picture of a rocket ship that was made by one on our students .....

After making a picture, the students prepared a list of things they would need to create their real rocket ship.

This list included: feathers, paint, glitter and foil

We set off to work, where things got interesting!
First the children created the colors they would need. This was a very good opportunity for the children to learn more about mixing primary colors together and see what color mixture it made.
The colors turned out to be very vibrant!
As time went on more and more students joined...

Beautiful color choices created by the children...

After a little while, Noah got an idea in his head! This  cardboard was just taking too long to paint because it was sooo big! So he thought it would be a better idea to get paper towels and soak them in the paint and than use that to paint with! =D and so the experimenting began.....
All the children joined in as they agreed this was a GREAT idea....

After using paper towels for a little bit, they still weren't done so they moved on to just using their hands and filling them with paint.....

This was just wayyyyy too much fun!!

After getting the right amount of paint on, they started decorating with glitter....

and feathers of course!
As the children were doing this, we had a group conversation about what everything was being used for to complete this rocket ship.
Noah said, " the feathers inside are the fire."
Kylie said, " feathers on the outside are the windows."
Cami told us," the feathers help them fly."

" This is the metal thing that goes around the fire to help it fly!"

" This is for the gas." (black streamer)

" These are the batteries, we need fire" (glass marbles).
When I asked Kylie what her rocket ship was missing she replied, " The pointy thing ". I asked, " What does the pointy thing do?" Kylie answered, " It makes the rocket fly faster and if it doesn't have that it goes slower!"
We had to find out just what this pointy thing was called and what it did!
We set off to the computer to do our research...
We came upon a website that showed us pictures of rocket ships and their functions..
We learned the "pointy thing" was called a nose cone.
The cone is shaped to offer minimum aerodynamic resistance. Nose cones are also designed for travel in and under water and in high speed land vehicles.

Kylie wanted to draw a picture of the parts to a rocket, and we have been learning what their purpose is.
Some of the parts are body tube, removable rocket, fins, parachute lines and nose cone.

After working together on creating the rocket, one of the students decided he would like to make one of his own! We look forward to seeing where this takes us next! ;-)
