Today in class we had a wonderful discussion about where snow comes from. As the conversation continued, we got on the subject of how rain turns into snow, and how ice melts.
We brought ice into the class to test out different theories the children had, and they realized that the ice was melting. Kiersten said, “The light is making it melt!” The children told us to turn off the lights and close the blinds. But the ice kept melting!!! Then, they said it was melting because it was daytime, and one light was still on.
We asked where we could put some ice in the dark to see if it doesn’t melt and they said they could do it at home! So……………….
For homework the children need to “go home and turn the lights off. Then put a piece of ice on a sheet of paper and put it in the dark.” This way, the ice shouldn’t melt! ;0)
We will all come in tomorrow and tell each other about our discovery! We are excited to hear them talk about their homework assignment and see where it takes us tomorrow!
