Since the Fall Festival has passed, the students have jumped right back into starting projects on many different things. We have sooooo many different things going on in our classroom and our students are the ones making it happen!
One of the main projects in the class room is Castles. This child is creating a book about his castle he created out of the materials provided. He has began on the second page. The students have started learning and focusing on TITLES, AUTHORS, and ILLUSTRATORS. We have done a great job remembering these 3 things as we always go over it and talk about it at story time! So now we have started talking about how a story has a beginning , middle and end. In the middle is where we are adding a CLIMAX to our story. Along with that we are learning about a MAIN CHARACTER(S) and VILLAINS( instead of Bad guy, as we LOVE to use that word!) ;-)
Please discuss this topic with your children while you read stories to them at home or bedtime!
This student has started created his very own 3-d Castle. He is a perfectionist at how he wants his castle to be set up. On one side he has the army of knights protecting his castle and on the other he has the "bad guys". We are also going to start creating a moat with water around it and a hill that the castle will be on top. We have started studying different books about castles to understand the reason for the architecture of them.
Why was the castle built on the highest part of the land?
Who lived in the castle?
Why is there usually a moat around the castle?
Why are the windows so small?
What did a draw bridge do?
Why did the knights wear their armor?
Who did they protect?
These are just some of the questions we are investigating........
We received some very cool and educational books that had a lot of information on Castles, The King, Queens, Knights, Guards and Villans.
Sam saw a very intriguing picture of a character in the book that he wanted to draw all on his own. We love when our children express their work through their artwork. Check out the Amazing Piece!
We are just creating castles in sooo many different ways! Noah started using the blocks to also make a very HIGH castle for his Mom ;) He was very careful putting each piece on top of the other. After he was done making it he took a picture of his creation!
By: Preston
Our new student Preston loved the sand area! He created an area where, " The knight was trapped in the sand because he was making bad choices!" lol. After he was done putting together the pieces exactly where he wanted them he created a drawing and wrote about it. He also shared his interesting story with his classmates before story time!
We then measured the girls that were in class that day and practiced writing those numbers.
Next it was time to line up the boys. We had more boys than girls! But Grace had no interest in the boys! lol! She only wanted to draw and measure the girls. ;0)
So some of the other children took on the work! They drew the boys, and started measuring them.
This has inspired the teachers to challenge the children with measuring themselves. We have a chart in the hallway with the children's names and numbers up to 50 inches. The children will measure themselves and find the corresponding number on the chart to record their heights.
"Shelter For The Animals" By: Kylie
Kylie started creating a Animal Shelter for the animals you see in the middle of the blocks. She went over to the over head where she was going to create an image. Instead she started take the button pieces for the over head where she was sliding them across the light. When we asked what she was doing she told us it was, "A game of hockey where we are sliding the pieces across!" We than found the letters to spell the word, "Hockey".
We love to see how the smallest thoughts and ideas the children do turn into a learning activity. We try not to limit our children on how they choose to experiment with different things. We love for them to THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX. Their really is nothing that can't be turned into an educational learning experience! This is what makes learning so fun!
